Rush Creek Growers is a wholesale bedding plant
grower located in Spring Valley, Wisconsin. In the fall of 2007, they
installed red LED bulbs to extend the day length and supplement the low
winter light levels on rooted cuttings in their greenhouse.

"These LEDGrowLightTM
bulbs have allowed us to get into a lighting system without the expense
of purchasing HID fixtures and then having to pay an arm-and-a-leg to
operate them as well. There are 44
ten-watt red bulbs suspended four feet over the six by sixty-six foot
bench. The LED bulbs are spaced three feet apart in two rows.
The bulbs are simply strung together on 14-gauge UV resistant cable
(14-2 w/ground). The waterproof sockets were purchased at Menards.
The results so far look great. Perennial cuttings broke dormancy
and Mediterranean herbs look right at home. After the rooting
season Rush Creek Growers intends to use the space to light native
grasses and forbs to ready them for sale." |
